UPPER MARLBORO, MD – In recognition of National Preparedness Month, the Prince George’s County Office of Homeland Security/Office of Emergency Management is pleased to announce the National Capital Region’s (NCR’s) 4th Annual Community Emergency Response Team Conference. This conference, known as CERTCon, will be hosted by Prince George’s County CERT and will provide two-days of lectures, panel discussions, and demonstrations. This conference provides an excellent opportunity for participants to gain valuable insights on a variety of emergency preparedness topics as they participate in a full-day of educational seminars and training sessions. The second day features a Preparedness Expo, demonstrations, and networking sessions.

This year’s conference honors the life and legacy of former Prince George’s County Executive, Wayne K. Curry, who passed away in July of 2014 and was a champion for emergency preparedness. Mr. Curry believed that a well prepared community is a safer community. CERTcon is designed to build up emergency preparedness competency within our neighborhoods, which was Mr. Curry’s vision.

CERTCon will take place on Saturday, September 20th from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 21st from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Upper Marlboro, MD, at Dr. Henry A. Wise High School, located at 12650 Brooke Lane. The conference is open to CERT volunteers, public safety officials, and anyone who is looking for information on how they can be more prepared and involved when an emergency happens in their community.
