Government in secrecy is not good government.
If Max Brantley is a good reporter, he will be asking police officials
to specifically document cases where criminals were actively using a
scanner or phone app to "deter their capture." I'll bet that there
won't be an answer, or there will be hemming and hawing and waffling
to avoid having to provide such details. Max appears to have started
this process, since his article states "Repeated inquiries to city
officials about the subject over the last several months were answered
with silence or misinformation." Officer safety is important, but
stonewalling by paid and elected officials is a bad sign.
