Arrested in Parsippany for interfering with fire dept.
SECTION: POLICE BLOTTERS
LENGTH: 161 words
Parsippany Fire Districts 3, 4 and 6, as well as Parsippany Police and EMS-1, responded to a report of an electrical fire at 10 Pomeroy Rd. the morning of April 23.
According to reports, as firefighters were operating inside of the building, an individual began broadcasting on Parsippany's Fire frequency.
The nature of the broadcasts interrupted fire operations and caused confusion at an active fire scene, police said.
Parsippany Police Department's Investigative Division Det. Anthony Morelli arrested and charged John A. Weigel, 31, of Lake Hiawatha, with interception or use of official communications, after the investigation into the incident.
Police reportedly confiscated several scanning devices and two-way radios programmed with emergency frequencies from local municipalities.
Weigel was released pending an appearance in court.
Anyone with information regarding this or similar incidents in the area is asked to call Det. Anthony Morelli at 973-263-4312.
