I did not plow slavishly through the ads in Thursday's WaPo. I did see the one from Staples. They are selling Duracell Coppertop cells in the aforementioned sizes for 50% of the usual price through Saturday. My figure of merit for brand name D cells is 75 cents. If I ever see them going for that, it's a good price. The price of cells has skyrocketed in the last few years, and I think my goal of paying no more than 75 cents for one is just a dream.
I bought some 9-volt Duracells at the Giant a few weeks back, also for half-price. What's happening is that Duracell has come out with a new improved model. It's sugar-free or low-sodium, maybe, so stores are clearing out the Duracells in the old packaging, even though the pull dates are well into the future.
Getting back to Staples, I see that their usual price is $15.29 for an 8-pack of C cells or D cells, so the sale price is 96 cents each.

That's not the bargain I was hoping for, but maybe I can use a coupon as well and drive down the price further. The limit is one package of each size per transaction. I might get a package of C cells and a package of D cells and then swap the C cells later for D cells.
Radio Shack has some SD cards on sale, but so does everyone else.
Yes, I've seen the videos of fights breaking out at Walmart. "Buy Nothing Day" looks better every year.
