[Scan-DC] Train traffic

I hadn't noticed. While I don't have a scanner with me at work, I do have a Radio Shack HTX-200 2-meter band handheld transceiver. I have it set to receive at 161.5500 MHz, an old RF&P frequency. If you have room for only one frequency on your radio, this is the one to have in northern Virginia. I could also tune it to Park Police and DC Fire-EMS frequencies, but it makes a poor scanner.

I went up to my rooftop monitoring bunker on top of the Department of Labor's Francis Perkins Building, which is across the street from the Judiciary Square metro stop, at about 10:30 a.m. I did not bring my scanner with me. From the south end of the roof, the view of the U.S. Capitol is spectacular. Vis-a-vis railroads, I have a clear view of CP Virginia, which used to be called Virginia Avenue back in the Pennsylvania Railroad days. I can also see the baseball stadium. I cannot see the Washington Navy Yard, as it is behind Capitol Hill (Jenkins Hill) and various House Office Buildings. I could see, barely above the House buildings, a helicopter going back and forth over the Navy Yard. There were no commercial aircraft in the sky at that time. The House Office Buildings are, I am guessing, Rayburn, Cannon, and Longworth. Ford is a few blocks away.

I did not see any trains in the few minutes I was up there. Now that I am at lunch, I can spend more time up on the roof. I'll take my radio too. I think I'll do that right now.

Note to armed, not kidding around this time, rooftop guards at the U.S. Capitol: Nicht schiessen; ich bin ein eisenbahn freunde.

I was told decades ago that, if I ever got into East Germany to see the steam locomotives they were operating well after it was gone elsewhere in Europe, I needed to say that. Someone can help out with the spelling.

BRB, it is hoped.

Just occurred to me...no B&O or VRE traffic has been coming through at
L'Efant Plaza.

I am listening to the DCA tower directly, so the info is more correct that
whatever you are seeing online. I have been listening to them re-route
arrivals after they put the stop on.

But, DCA was just talking to one of the helicopters (not sure which one)
that confirmed that they presently have _no known threats_ on the base, and
that DCA can re-open arrivals and departures.

So, nothing on Bolling, apparently.
