Probably changing out all of the electrolytic caps would make a difference.

Thanks! No real reason to suspect it - funny, for all the fooling around
that I've done with electronics over the years, I just never really knew
whether or not they would just "go bad" like other electronic components so
that was the main reason for the question. Thjis radio had problems with
the squelch circuit and the AC power supply, seems to me I fired it up
awhile ago and the reception was a little fuzzy or something (pretty vague,
I know!) and I wondered if it was the crystal / crystals in general.

10.7, right, I remember that now... Regency, Sonar, and those Lafayette /
Unimetrics radios all used the same ones... buddy of mine is still using a
Unimetrics... good stuff!

Thx again.

D

They don't go bad with age and are fairly rugged but can suffer mechanical
damage. Why do you suspect the crystal?

You can try G&G Communications or kenslectronincs.com or Bomar or
International Crystal for a replacement.

Sonar used a 10.7 MHz IF and might use the same crystals as a Regency.

Good luck.

Do crystals go bad, as in going off-frequency? Anybody have any idea of
someplace where I could get a crystal (remember them) for a scanner? The
scanner in question is an old Sonar VHF High Band, model FR-105. It uses
the same crystals as another popular one that was made by Unimetrics and
sold by Lafayette.

(I'm sure this takes many of you back to the Dark Ages, or at least the Tube
Ages!)

I wouldn't mind trying to put this radio back in service...

Thanks.
