We are seeking to hire an Electronics Engineer working in our Technical Center for Air Traffic Systems and Operations. The employee will provide Volpe Center Subject Matter Expertise supporting planning for use of the radio spectrum by CNS systems providing service to all transportation modes, either individually or in combination.
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate serves as an Electronics Engineer analyzing the suitability of candidate radiofrequency bands for proposed new transportation CNS systems, including the compatibility of the proposed systems. Analyzes the impact of proposed non-transportation (e/g., telecommunications) systems on existing transportation systems, including safety-of-life systems, taking account of proposed system’s planned and potential unintended consequences. S/he provides technical advice on electromagnetic spectrum engineering matters to Volpe Center, FAA, surface transportation administration, and safety regulatory agency management. The employee is knowledgeable in the current allocation of the radio spectrum to various transportation-related systems and services, including safety-of-life services. The incumbent contributes to the overall management of the Air Navigation and Surveillance Division and other divisions with cross-divisional work by meeting programmatic and technical requirements of projects/tasks; meeting cost, schedule, documentation, reports, and performance objectives; managing the scope/schedule/quality of assigned project deliverables; and maintaining productive relationships with the customer.
