[Scan-DC] Behind Russia's dash cam culture

I bought the Itronics ITB-100HD back before Itronics cracked the whip on the
Fleebay dealers for selling cheap which made the price just about double.
My purchase was after MUCH research (years of wanting but scared of being
burned) and also watching DashCamTalk for quite a while. I bought it for my
motorhome since people love cutting off large vehicles, but I have a second
mount in the SUV which is where it stays unless the motorhome is on the
road. My must was GPS, which allows the recording of speed in addition to
being able to quickly find incidents/spots/sites on the video that I may
want to retrieve. Some have said that the speed recording can be used
against you, but the Itronics does it in two ways. One is by stamping next
to the date and time on the actual video (optional), and the other is in the
video's matching text file which is what contains the GPS record. If one is
paranoid about the speed, the video stamping can be turned off, and the
video file (common AVI file) can be surrendered without the matching text
file. The other thing I learned from watching DashCamTalk is to inspect the
night video. Just about all of the cameras will give great day video, but
only a few will give adequate night video. Finally concerning windshield
mounting... mine is behind the mirror and actually looks like a part of the
mirror. It is also very hard to see from inside the vehicle unless you bend
down and look behind the mirror which makes the obstructed vision violation
hard to justify.

Sounds like just as good an idea to have one here as in Russia. Do you mind
sharing the make/model of your dash cam?
John.
