Description:
Responsible for management of the Fairfax County radio services
program, assets and services. Plans, develops, and coordinates the
implementation, maintenance and support of all aspects of Fairfax
County's 800 MHz radio communications systems and devices, which
includes the county's Public Safety system (supports 9-1-1 services,
Police, Fire, Sheriff, Office of Emergency Management), Public Service
Radio Systems (supports other county agencies and Fairfax County Public
Schools), other UHF, VHF, and low-band radio systems, and other related
technologies installed in vehicles such as mobile data devices and video
equipment. Ensures compliance with Federal Communications Commission
(FCC) rules and regulations. Supervises a staff of engineers, analysts,
technicians and other support personnel in implementing systems and
capabilities; manages system operations and maintenance and refresh
activities; develops and activates emergency response and disaster
preparedness requirements, and coordinates service level agreements with
stakeholder agencies to ensure the equipment and system capabilities
meet the county and FCPS radio communications short and long range
objectives. Also prepares, justifies, and executes the radio program and
project budgets.
Serves as a liaison with other government
agencies (regional, federal, state, and local) for interoperability
goals, and understanding common objectives in the radio/electronics
fields, and their impact on Fairfax County and surrounding
jurisdictions. Participates in Regional Radio Managers groups.
Participates in drafting input to FCC on related matters to include
narrowband, broadband, spectrum, wireless infrastructure, and
interoperability.
