[Scan-DC] Home video cams

I am pleased with the Night Owl I just bought. I got it from the Tiger Direct mailing list which has had some pretty good deals. The 8 channel LTE model I am working with is giving me a lot of coverage options, and the 'record on movement' option is rather sophisticated (better than I expected).

The cameras are wired but that's not a bad thing- they have to be powered so you have to run wires of some sort. These are very small wires combining video & power in this set, and they are 60' in length. You can buy extensions if you want.

I have found it's best to find a good spot, say a corner eve under a roofline, and cluster a bunch of cameras togther showing different angles. Then you can run all the wires along the same path back to the recorder. Though it is nice to have the recorder near a tv / monotor to plug in the video and to use the remote, all of the monitoring, setup and playback can be done by computer, so you can just put the recorder somewhere convenient to the cable run then snake an ethernet cable to your home router to share the data. This will also be how you see your video on the internet.

I am not an expert - I have very little personal experience with these things, but I have some. There are several manufacturers and they all make decent products. Of course you will get what you pay for, and $350 will only get so much, but it's better than nothing.
