All -

The latest "protection" security people seems to have implemented is to
not allow backpacks to outdoors events.

At a local event for the Cinco de Mayo festivities here in Denver the
"security" personnel did not allow attendees to take in backpacks. Yet, I
saw plenty of camera bags, sport bags and strollers with each one capable
of carrying a load of explosives being allowed onto the event grounds.
True, the bags were checked as was my backpack until the guy remembered no
backpacks allowed but if you wanted, you could easily bring in an
explosive device hidden in those bags under the gym shorts, baby nappies,
etc.

I was lucky that I was not too far from my vehicle so it was only a five
minute walk each way but, nonetheless, it was irksome for the usual
implementation of a whimsical and flippant move for "security.

I carry the radios, notebook and extra battery packs in the backpack so
now I need to get some cargo pants to carry the stuff.

I imagine the 5 and 10 K races and the Marine Marathon will be locked down
for "security" at their scheduled time. The Marine Memorial has always
been locked down for the Marathon but I guess the whole route will now be
and radio amateurs who help will need to be on site the night before and
have a security clearance before participating!
