Around 2 and 3 a.m. this morning, the Park PD dispatcher moved officers
individually by USPP district to the "special events channel" for a test.
Officers were told to switch back to Ch.2 afterwards.
I suspect it is the IWN system, as I found a bunch of P25 hits that kept
jumping around the 167 band. Unfortunately it was hard to determine for
sure because as far as I could determine, only "radio maintenance" was in
the clear (unusual for anybody on IWN to be in the clear).
I am set up today on IWN with the old notebook running Pro96Com, in hopes of
making a positive ID.
They also made reference to having officers report for IMAR training
(perhaps our police friends can tell us what that might be?). Sounds
computer related?
Rumor was that USPP is planning eventually to move to IWN for dispatch. In
which case, we're probably doomed, unless our media friends can make the
case for openness, at least on the dispatch channel.
