[Scan-DC] All Hazards Radio?

Actually, it surprised me. About twenty minutes after I reported the outage, a
signal popped right up. Coincidence?
Of course, a REAL radio system would have some kind of "oops, the carrier
disappeared" alarm and maybe even a "hey, there's a carrier but no mod" alarm.
And maybe even a technician with a big red "RESET" button.
But, hey, it's just a warning system. Their S.A.M.E. system is supposed to warn us
about any "hazardous event (nuclear power plant problem, a chemical or biological
accident, etc.)" but ... well, if it doesn't work out, there will be other signs. And if
no "media stars" have been arrested during the day, our network "news" will tell us.
Yes, I might be a bit critical of folks who are probably trying to do a good job and
hope for promotions, but I know that the system could be better. NOAA could
contract with a ham radio club to run the area transmission system and I'm sure
it would be more reliable. And probably a lot cheaper. And reliable ... in the
Capital area. Seems like that would be considered an "important thing."
As far as losing the "All Hazards Radio" system to the Fiscal Cliff ... I had my
window open, listening for a Goofy yell. You know, the old "Ya ... hoo ... hooie!"
sound of Goofy going over a cliff.

NOAA Weather Radio seems to have vanished again. None of my receivers hear it on any of
the freqs that cover the DC area.
And -- this is supposed to be our primary warning system?!
Anyone know who maintains it? Low-bid contractor or disgruntled Government employees?
