Assuming that they did indeed narrowband, it depends on how you have these freqs programmed. If the audio sounds a bit soft, you should go through
these 2 and check the mode. I *think* the 396T defaults to FM here, while the 996 defaults to NFM

Lots of ways to do this - go through the menus and see how it's set up, or dump it into a program and reprogram the channels as NFM

No big deal either way...you can use the Easier to Read manuals if you want to do this manually...Mike
