*On I295 near the Hopewell/Ft. Lee, VA exit is at most a mile stretch
that segments Prince George Co. which borders it on either side. For at
least the past 5+ years a Hopewell city deputy 24/7 is on a I295 segment
parked in one specific road shoulder locations during the morning and
one in the afternoon. Most of the time the unit is marked and sometimes
others are plain colored but they all have those Xmas lights installed.
In the morning he gets the going to work local speeders and the northern
and Canadian speeders on their way to Florida. In the afternoon his
shift replacement locates on the north side of a I295 segment road
shoulder and gets the going home local speeders and the northern and
Canadian speeders returning from Florida.**
**
**These two deputy sheriff's radar operations net Hopewell, VA $2
million a year in speeder fines. That averages about $5,000-$6,000 a
day. Those high mph speeds with reckless driving fines added plus court
costs add up. Recently there was an article in the Richmond newspaper
about their successful operations. It is not a speed trap. The speed
limit is 70mph along that stretch so that gives you an idea of the
speeder's speeds on I295. The deputies additionally have caught a
couple of wanted individuals and found drugs at speeding stops. How do
I know who are speeders? I can tell by the license checks being run
after being stopped.**
*
*Those "Keep Virginia Green" signs you see posted do not mean "Forestry
Conservation".*
