I did have flares in the trunk, but I would have had to walk back to
the car while other vehicles (trying to take or avoid taking the 395NB
exit) were passing in between my car and the disabled car, and then I
would have had to stand at the back of the cruiser in poor visibility
with zero crash protection to get to the flares. Since the only
reflective stripes were on the trunk lid, opening the trunk would have
left me way too vulnerable to a vehicle strike. But frankly, I think I
only got as far as saying to myself "Oh S@$!"
