Here's my semi-regular "Debbie Downer" contribution: I don't think it will be too long before most or virtually all public safety communications goes digital and encrypted. Beyond that, if/when the nationwide FirstNet LTE network gets launched, the effect will be the same: We will no longer be able to listen. I'm thinking it's time to sell my scanners while they still have a modicum of value (as I wish I had done with my film cameras).
