All -

Since I QSY'ed to Colorado I thought that I would contribute to Scan-DC
when I can with frequencies that may still be relevant to the most of the
members in the DC area.

Soon after I arrived in March a large fire SW of Denver burned a large
area, essentially, in mountain suburbs and killed three people. It was an
escaped fire fire from a purposefully set controlled burn.

Now, just north and west of Fort Collins, Colorado, about 50 miles north
of Denver, the High Park Fire has burned over 40,000 acres several
dwellings and one confirmed dead. Many horses and pets along with their
owners have evacuated the area. Doubtless many have seen the video bites
on the TV news.

Scanner members in the area are providing frequency lists and live feed
via Radio Reference.com. Even though most of our members are on the East
Coast, the live feed

http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?action=wp&feedId=7897

provides interesting audio from many of the organizations battling the
blaze. The audio also provides an interesting look into the
organizational structure following the National Incident Management System
(NIMS) set up by FEMA and how they are implementing the NIMS/Incident
Command System protocols. Maps locating the geographical points and the
fire units can be found on TheDenverChannel.com or the DenverPost.com.

There is also a RR forum dedicated to posts from listeners to the radio
traffic. Through the posts you can read the fire's development since a
lightning stroke started it on Saturday.
