This happened in Kelso, Washington, which is between Portland and Seattle. Radios were taken from 44 buses. The value was nearly $4,000. Less than $100 per radio? Maybe they really were CB radios.

Dozens of two-way radios stolen from Kelso School District garage

Kelso police are looking for the unidentified burglar or burglars who entered the Kelso School District's fenced bus garage over the weekend and stole Motorola two-way radios from 44 of the 51 school buses.

The central dispatcher and bus drivers use the CB-style radios to communicate, said Jim Biwer, director of business and operations for the Kelso School District. For instance, if a parent calls the dispatcher to say a child will be a little late getting to the bus stop, the dispatcher can ask the driver to wait, he said.

The radios weren't dash-mounted, so the buses suffered no damage, he said. The theft, estimated at nearly $4,000, is covered by insurance, he said.
