MEDIA ADVISORY

Suspicious packages and bomb threats have become almost commonplace in this area and each incident can last several hours until a scene is rendered safe. Anchors and reporters are often left with little information to relay to the public, and find themselves repeating what they do know.

The Fairfax County Police Department is offering media representatives an opportunity to learn about bomb detection and disposal from the experts of our Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit. There will be demonstrations of some of the tools of their trade, including robots, and a chance to ask questions.

Our primary goal is to increase and improve the public’s understanding of the treacherous work bomb squads all across our region are called upon to perform every time a suspicious package is discovered.
