[Scan-DC] Major incident - 395 in Alexandria

SHIRLINGTON, Va. (WUSA) - An Alexandria paramedic, initially reported to be
a firefighter, fell from I-395 in Shirlington into Four Mile Run Creek while
responding to a car fire on Wednesday evening.

The paramedic, a city of Alexandria employee, was taken to Medstar in
serious condition.

Alexandria Fire Chief Dwayne Bonnette that the paramedic had fallen into the
creek and that rescue personnel got him out. The paramedic has worked for
the city for seven years.

Traffic on I-395 Northbound is completely blocked and southbound is blocked
as far as the 14th St. Bridge.

Arlington Fire Dept. spokesman Captain Gregg Karl says that fire crews from
both Arlington and Alexandria were sent to the scene of the car fire, which
was in the HOV lanes of I-395 Northbound.

The fire was declared out, but the paramedic from Alexandria tumbled from
the overpass of I-395 NB into Four Mile Run Creek below.

No further details on how he fell or his identity were released. We'll
update this story as more information becomes available.
