I should stress that in all cases, you need to make sure that you have 
rebanding-capable firmware in your scanner, otherwise no amount of software
changes will matter - they simply won't work.  This is particularly true 
of the older Unidens (BC296, BC796, BCD396T and BCD996T), where a specific
level of firmware is required. The links are all in the rebanding 
article. I believe new firmware was just issued for the GRE and RS 
object scanners- see the
relevant threads in the RS and GRE forums at RadioReference for more
