[Scan-DC] PEPCO Wireless Meters Fear -- Hype or Real?

This may be a continuation of the "EMF" scare that was instilling fear a few
years ago. Very high EMF levels can make you feel on edge; the field
strength from these intermittent transmissions outside your house will be
far less than from your toaster, telephone, mixer, cell phone, cordless
phone, computer, etc.
The information about data collection is interesting. Thermal scans of
houses have been used to get warrants to investigate people growing illicit
crops indoors. I wonder if DC-area counties would try to use this data to
find houses which are over their occupancy limits, find out who has a
home-based business so they can tax them, etc. - why isn't this part of
their sales pitch ;) And how do I get certified as a Building Biologist?

Question: What is a Smart Meter?
Answer: A digital electric meter that will replace your analog electric
meter. It has two wireless radio-frequency transmitters allowing two-way
communications between your home and Pepco. Pepco started the installation
process in June 2011 and will continue through December 2012 until all
Maryland customers have had a new meter installed.
Diana Schultz and Tom Wilson will present the facts and issues surrounding
Smart Meters from their unique perspectives as an Urban Planner and Building
Biologist working with electrically sensitive clients and an Electrical
Engineer seasoned in the wireless telecommunications world.
Issues with Smart Meters
1. Health Effects
· Sleep problems, headaches, migraines, tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
· Skin rashes, redness, itching
· Vertigo, cognitive impairments, blood-brain barrier breaches
· Problems with children's development, compromised immune systems
2. Functionality
· Billing questions, higher monthly billing for same usage levels
· New fire hazards
3. Privacy
· Wireless transmissions of personal usage data day and night
· Reporting times of appliance usage and non-usage
· Revealing when residents are not at home
· Usage data being sold to companies for marketing purposes
4. Personal right to opt out is denied
· Installation is done without homeowner's consent
What you can do - The Good News
1. Shielding techniques and strategies
2. Personal rights and resources
3. Take-away information

2) Electromagnetic Radiation: Making the Invisible Visible
When: Saturday, February 4, 2012, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Where: A private home in Gaithersburg, MD
Cost: $50/family
Early bird registration: $40/family if registered and pre-paid by 1/25/12
To register: Email: szimmermann123 at gmail.com
This one-day workshop will include important information that everyone needs
to know about the concerns and choices you have to reduce and prevent EMR
exposures from electric fields, magnetic fields and radio frequencies. You
will walk away knowing the following:
· Typical problems found in residential homes
· How to mitigate exposures in your own home so that you may support
natural healthy living conditions for yourself and your family
· Some of the best meters for your needs and how to use them
The information on Smart Meters (presented on February 5th) will not be
included in this workshop. Those also interested in the Smart Meter
presentation should register for both events. Some of the people coming to
this presentation are considering sharing the cost and use of a set of
meters.
3) Home Consultations
See Services and then Home Assessments: http://www.greenandhealthyhomes.net.
Individual consultations will be scheduled Feb 3rd, 6th and 7th.
