That freq (162.25) is coming in loud and clear in Ballston. Will listen
for motorcade activity.

P.S.: A Sportcat 180? Is that on loan from the Smithsonian?

It's an oldie but a goodie. I like it a lot. The latest review:

http://www.strongsignals.net/access/reviews/reviews.cgi?type=display&rtype=rev&class=recv&num=034

I bought two of them over ten years ago when Best Buy dropped them, and I paid something like $39.97. They were display models and lacked the wall wart, but I later found the factory OEM wall wart at a community flea market for fifty cents or a quarter.

The display is big enough that I can actually see it. Picks up Arlington fire simulcast in College Park MD. Sufficient. Earphone jack is wired for stereo, so all those MP3 player headphones work with it.

Great for railfanning, aviation, eavesdropping on FRS. Until narrowbanding takes hold, ideal for railfanning in fact, as you can plug in the AAR channels using the AAR channel numbers.

Unfortunately for today's use, it does not get MPD digital. 162.25 is a flamethrower. I know it comes in loud and clear in Alexandria. Obama was at the National Building Museum on Sunday, I think. Justin Bieber was there too. Imagine the radio transmissions for that one.

Best wishes.
