This is slightly off-topic, but the National Radio Astronomy
Observatory, a facility of my agency (the National Science Foundation),
is looking for a new name for the Very Large Array radio telescope near
Socorro, New Mexico. The VLA was made famous by Jodie Foster in Contact,
and you may not realize it, but you probably see pictures of it almost
every day in advertisements (it has become an icon for high tech and
communications).
The deadline for submitting a suggestion for a new name is this
Thursday, and the announcement of the new name will take place on
January 10. If your suggestion is picked, you get absolutely nothing
(this is the government, after all).
Here is the URL for the entry form:

Please feel free to forward to fellow radio nerds and space geeks.
Regards,
Andy
