Just getting to my email so i apologize if this had been previously answeres. Code orange also known as total re-route. This occurs when the hospital is so overwhlemed (which be ambo's as well as walk ins) that they can't handle the volume. This usually goes into affect when an ambulance transports a patient to the hospital and they have to wait for more than 20 min to have their patient placed in a bed. When this does occur the ambo that tranported contacts the ems duty officer to let them know; Then in turn that duty officer contacts the charge nurse and then talks about the options. Then if they still wish to go on total re route then they get on the EMRC radio and conference all the other hospitals in their district. If the other hospitals agree, then the hospital goes on total reroute for 1 hour and they can renew it for another hour if they need to.
It's important to note that when a hospital goes on yellow it means they are full in the er and have 10 or more patients waiting over 1 hour to see a doc. If they go on red alert that means they are no more tele beds (those are cardiac monitored beds) in the hospital.
Then total re route means that they simply are no able to keep with the flow and so no ambo's can transport there but that does nothing to keep walk ins from arriving.
Hope this helps,
Joe B

I think they may be using "orange" in place of "re-route." You'll see that
color used in the real-time hospital alert status chart on the MEIMMS web
