CAD DATA TRANSFER TO POLICE AND FIRE RECORDS MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

BOWIE, MD— On May 3, 2011, Prince George’s County Public Safety Communications relocated from its former facility in Landover, Maryland to a new facility in Bowie, Maryland. All Police, Fire, Sheriff and EMS 9-1-1 calls are answered and dispatched out of the new state of the art facility.

As a result of this move, new 9-1-1, dispatch, the new 700 MHz radio system, calculated routing functions, and emergency response technology has been installed in the new 9-1-1 Center. These technology enhancements will ensure more effective and efficient public safety response for the citizens and residents of Prince George’s County. All emergency operations, radio communication, dispatch, call taking and life safety aspects of the new technology systems are working properly and as designed.

The County has worked with all vendors to ensure full functionality of the life safety functions of all technology that has been installed in the new 9-1-1 Center. The County continues to work with vendors on a planned, phased in process to implement functions that are not emergency functions or life safety issues.

One of the outstanding issues is the data transfer between the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and the Police Records Management System. The call for service information from the CAD is used as a foundation for the Police and Fire Records Management Systems. This is used to generate statistical data provides the information used in daily crime statistics, and analysis of calls for service data.

The transfer process to the Police RMS is being tested and quality assurance reviews are being done by the vendor along with County public safety personnel. The CAD vendor, Tiburon, has indicated that the interfaces are to be complete in the near future. Once completed, all backlogged data will be released to the public.

NEW PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY NON-EMERGENCY DISPATCH NUMBER IS 301-352-1200

BOWIE, MD: On May 3, 2011, Prince George’s County Public Safety Communications relocated from its former facility in Landover, Maryland to a new facility in Bowie, Maryland. The move to Bowie includes the acquisition of advanced technology in support of 9-1-1 calls and the related dispatch of Police, Fire, Sheriff and EMS personnel. As a result of the move to a new area, a new Public Safety Non-Emergency Dispatch Number has been designated for citizens to call to report non-urgent incidents that require the dispatch of public safety personnel.

The new Public Safety Non-Emergency Dispatch Number is 301-352-1200. This number is answered and processed in the 9-1-1 Center by the same highly trained Public Safety Communications personnel that process 9-1-1 calls.

The old Public Safety Non-Emergency Dispatch Number (301-333-4000) will be maintained and forwarded to the new facility for a period of time to ensure there is minimal impact on the service provided to the public.

The Public Safety Non-Emergency Dispatch Number, 301-352-1200, is set up to provide the opportunity for citizens to report non-urgent incidents that require dispatch of Police, Fire, EMS or Sheriff personnel. Non-emergencies include incidents that are not immediate threats to life or property, occurred in the past, or as an update to a previous report, etc. When used properly, it allows emergency 9-1-1 calls to be processed quickly while allowing the 9-1-1 Center to efficiently process non-emergency, non-urgent situations that require the dispatch of public safety officials.
