[Scan-DC] Jump/fell from apartment building

Sad, indeed. Now for a scary piece of related EMS trivia -- depending on how one lands and which body area gets the brunt of impact with Mother Earth, even a known-to-be lethal fall can often present with the patient's body clearly lacking a discern able fatal trauma.

This is one reason EMS is often dispatched to a fall scene even if the most appropriate medical care is that of a Medical Examiner. The more grisly and frightening side of this coin is that sometimes the reason there is no obvious fatal trauma is because the victim survived the fall!

Mercifully, in most cases death before the responding EMT and/or Medic can make the victim stable for ground transport unless the EMS crew had the smarts to radio for a helicopter.

Food for Thought,

A

The "gunshot" was apparently the sound of the person hitting the ground.

Very sad.
