At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011, and through the weekend, D Street between 2nd & 3rd Streets NW – to include both 395 South tunnel entrance ramps – will be closed in order for GSA to position and assemble a very large (300 ton) crane close to the Frances Perkins Building to install new cooling towers on the rooftop of the Frances Perkins Building.

As required by permit and DCDOT, roadside detour signage will be posted along the designated detour route to redirect traffic.  Attached are printable alternate directions for your use.

This might be a good chance to snag frequencies assigned to the rigging company, unless it uses Nextel or GRM frequencies. The traffic tieup alone on a beautiful day should generate some radio traffic.

I have a long story to tell about railfanning at the Braddock Road Metro station, but I don't have the time now.
