[Scan-DC] Thanks!

Hi Joel,

Just a personal opinion/comment on your comment about using ARC to log... I
know, we all have them :)

Anyway, I've found... hence my personal taste... that no one program is good
at everything. For this reason, I use three... ARC, bcTool, and FreeSCAN.

- I use ARC for the programming. I love ARC's programming ability where it
saves each system as a separate file. Back when I had my Pro-96, I used to
save each bank/jurisdiction as a separate Win96 file. This way, I didn't
have to go into a dozen different files just because I wanted to make a
change to a single channel in a single bank. When it was time to reprogram
the 96, I would load each desired bank file into Win96, then move them
around until I had all 10 banks full. Again, this is why I like and use ARC
for programming... changes only have to be made in a single file (***one
time***).

- I use bcTool for it's logging and recording abilities. I ***believe***
that the latest version is still untimed freeware. The logging is great,
but what I really love is the way the recording structure can be customized
to your own personal taste. My personal recording structure is {System
Name} / {Group Name} / {Channel Name}. In the {Channel Name} directory, the
files are stored as "YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS [-] {Channel Name} ({Talkgroup
ID}-{RID}) {Scanner #)". I use the {Scanner #} in the file name because I
run two scanners into the computer, one to the left audio and one to the
right audio (the paid version of bcTool allows you to use up to four
scanners). This way, if I replay the audio file, I know which side to
listen to. This also give me the ability to target a single channel for
playback when I'm looking for specific activity, such as, occasionally
looking the conventional PG PD channels to see if they've gone dark. BTW, I
also use RecAll Pro for simultaneous recording. This gives me a nice tight
single time and date stamped audio file that is broken into 60 minute
recorded segments.

- I use FreeSCAN to keep my programming consistent between my different
Unidens. FreeSCAN allows me to share my ***same*** programming between the
x96T and the x96XT with minimal disruptions. IIRC, the main disruption is
that the T and XT store the GPS coordinates in different places for trunked
systems, so those will be lost when going from one to the other.

Again, I said all this because of your logging comment. I NEVER want to
knock anyone else's ways... If it works for you, don't change! I just like
when others see something that ***may*** be better for them.

Take care,
Dewey

Doug:

I reprogrammed the 396T to ignore the status bit this morning at work, and
scanned the whole day, using ID scan part of the day and ID search in the
afternoon and I am not aware of hearing any traffic on either ICC talk
group. Tomorrow, I'll cable it up and start ARC396Pro to log calls, and see
what I get while I'm working at my desk. Bethesda SAT channel was busy this
afternoon, but someone set their radios to encrypted so all I got were
squeals and then carrier until I finally locked them out! Interesting,
because they are usually in the clear. Maybe they just wanted to see if I
would mention that here!

I've got a pinched sciatic nerve bothering my back, so I haven't been
roaming the building too much this week, but staying close to the desk.

Let you know what is happening tomorrow.

Hey Joel, don't feel pregnant, as they say... all I knew is that most of the
TG numbers that I'd seen were evens!  :)

Now... Previously, all the ICC radio traffic that I've heard has been while
I was in the car, either on the PRO-106 or the PRO-197... I programmed 16688
into the BC796 (my main "base" radio) yesterday evening and heard nary a
peep here in Gaitherbush... changed that to 32688 earlier today and didn't
hear anything before leaving for work, and that was at 2:30... have you
heard any transmissions?  Anybody else?

I haven't tried using the 106 or the 197 at the house.

I can't imagine that I wouldn't be able to hear two talkgroups out of the
whole system here at home...
