Hi Doug,

There is software that claims to allow you to add talkgroups, and you can
order a USB cable for it.

The ARC-PATROL software clams to let you do the tasks listed at the end of
this e-mail.

May you listen well 'n often!

Add a talkgroup that is not in the built-in database

Add/Modify a control channel frequency

Add a trunk system that is not in the built-in database

Add Nascar and other race frequencies

Change Alpha tags

Change or add subtones

Add Airband, CB, Marine, Railroad, FRS and GMRS frequencies

Change the service type of frequencies and/or talkgroups

Search a frequency range

Good information, everyone, thanks! I think I'll be adding the Home Patrol
(or the GRE equivalent) to my dream list...

One thing that I've been wondering about... I _think_ the pre-programmed
V-scanner files in the GRE/Shack radios don't always include _all_ of the
talkgroups for some trunked systems - for example, in Montgomery County only
the fire and police talkgroups are there, but not stuff like county
maintenance, traffic management, etc etc. (Am I right about this?) Does
the HP programming appear to be all-inclusive?

Also, I understand that a lot of this programming is pulled directly from
RadioReference.com, and while they do an excellent job, I've found that the
channel / talkgroup alpha tags aren't very descriptive (not putting this on
RadioRef, they post what they're given, and that info is taken from the
"real" radios) and also the data is usually arranged by talkgroup number.
The point is that I find I like to generate my own programming that has
related talkgroups adjacent to each other and with different names.

Can this sort of reprogramming be done in the HP, and do the all the
talkgroups of larged trunked systems seem to be there?

Obviously, when you're on the move, the HP seems to have a big advantage...
