You must have searched the wrong freq band. It was there. NORAD
controller HUNTRESS or BIGFOOT is the controller during the exercise.
Last time it was BIGFOOT who is the controller for the area west of the
Mississippi. (HUNTRESS east of) but either can control the sky anywhere
in the country. Freqs used will be either 228.9 or 260.9. Last time the
targets were two Civil Air Patrol aircraft that were playing the
aggressor role and were only heard on Potomac TRACON freqs. The fighters
for the last exercise were a couple of F-16s from Langley (the SD-ANG
and VT-ANG work from a detachment there.) One or two Coast Guard HH-65
helos also participate. They are based at National Airport. They'll also
be heard on the 228.9/260.9 freq but are difficult to hear if you're any
distance away from the area because of altitude. F-16s also will use an
air-to-air freq to talk among themselves. Find that in the 138-144 mHz
band searching 25 kHz increments. That should be enough to get you into
listening mode.
