[Scan-DC] Home Patrol

I don't know if the HP files are more inclusive than the V-scanner files. I would look on the RR site and see what's listed, because everything there should be in the HP database. With regard to the tags, I think it's the same thing -- whatever is on RR is what's in HP.

I forgot to mention a great feature of HP -- you can have it record everything and save the audio files on the internal memory card (VOX-controlled, so no dead air). The files are stored as standard mp3 files, so you can stick the memory disk into a PC or other device and play the files directly. I have a 4 GB card, the database consumes a few tens of MB, so the other 3+ GB of space is available to store many many hours worth of audio files.

Good information, everyone, thanks!  I think I'll be adding the Home Patrol (or the GRE equivalent) to my dream list...

One thing that I've been wondering about... I _think_ the pre-programmed V-scanner files in the GRE/Shack radios don't always include _all_ of the talkgroups for some trunked systems - for example, in Montgomery County only the fire and police talkgroups are there, but not stuff like county maintenance, traffic management, etc etc.  (Am I right about this?)  Does the HP programming appear to be all-inclusive?

Also, I understand that a lot of this programming is pulled directly from RadioReference.com, and while they do an excellent job, I've found that the channel / talkgroup alpha tags aren't very descriptive (not putting this on RadioRef, they post what they're given, and that info is taken from the "real" radios) and also the data is usually arranged by talkgroup number.  The point is that I find I like to generate my own programming that has related talkgroups adjacent to each other and with different names.

Can this sort of reprogramming be done in the HP, and do the all the talkgroups of larged trunked systems seem to be there?

Obviously, when you're on the move, the HP seems to have a big advantage...
