One thing I'd be apprehensive about: the units that attach to the windshield with a suction cup can leave a "footprint" on the windshield that is visible even with the suction cup not in place. This footprint says, to some people, "Expensive equipment inside. Please break in."

Andy previously sent me the info on the cradle thing, it's made by an outfit called Bracketron http://www.bracketron.com/.  They have some pretty neat stuff... I'm sure folks like us ought to be able to drop a few bucks with them.
