Those with access to satellite DSNG backhauls will recognize
this is completely wrong... MOST (nearly ALL) AF-1 departures and
arrivals are televised and fed to the WH News pool participants (NBC,
ABC, CBS, FOX, CNN) over DSNG satellite video links (mostly Ku band) or
fiber/microwave in the DC area and a great many of them (but fewer than
are backhauled) are distributed to local stations by the networks and
CNN.
What the stations and networks do with distributing the video to
the public varies I guess... in the past most of this was just watched
and used by newsroom staff unless some newsworthy event happened... but
more of these live or nearly live newsfeeds are being made available on
the net these days.
And quite a few AF-1 departures and arrivals are covered by
local TV stations - some of which also feed the pool and some just use
the video on local newscasts or even live (in some places a POTUS visit
is a REALLy big deal that happens only a couple of times a decade or
less).
