Shipping is not symmetrical in terms of price and speed.

I have a small run of printed circuit boards being assembled in China
now and sending a box of parts by DHL Air cost $160, for about 4.5 kg
weight. I just received an invoice for shipping the assembled boards to
me via FedEx at $150 for 10.5 kg total weight.

The parts to China took 12 days, most of which was involved clearance in
inbound Chinese customs. I expect, based on experience, the shipment to
me will take 3 days or 4 at the most.

Based on the economics of it, one would think that since China exports
more than it imports, there would be empty freight aircraft heading to
China and hence the price would be reduced in an attempt to fill those
empty aircraft. However, this seems not to be the case.
