My only encounter occurred in 1985 when a Fairfax officer took a look into
my car while i was in the 7-11 to see where he was hearing the state
police coming from When the dispatcher said Fairfax to XXX he took a look into
my parked car. Another time in McLean an officer also Fairfax but a
detective overheard Arlington calling unit 365 I think it was He said Hey that's
me I told Him it was an Arlington dispatcher so he said ok guess i'm safe.

IIRC, it was illegal to have a scanner in your car as recently as the late
1970's anywhere in VA. Or so I was told by the local "Officer Friendly"
when
he was taking my Bearcat crystal radio away from me in 1976. This happened
in the McLean/Falls Church area and I do not remember which department did
it.)
