I used to bank at that union bank - it had a different name then. They have been robbed many many times - only bank in the area I have seen with this security feature.
very cool entrance where the vestibule has been converted to a mantrap. the metal detector is in the door frame / walls - similar to some of the entrances at the White House or other VIP secure locations. The inner doors will not open until the outer door closes. If the detector senses a large mass of metal the inner door will not open at all. The tellers can see thru the glass vestibule and push a button to open the inner door if they know the customer or believe the customer not to be a threat.
apparently management / loss prevention feels it is better to let the bad guys escape rather than actually lock the suspects in the man-trap until police arrive. discretion IS the better part of valor.
I suppose if someone successfully got in though, they would trap in the vestibule until the cops arrive.
