[NOTE: for some reason the text from my Verizon address NEVER come through to the list....]
Here is what I tried to send:
as explained to me by some of the building maintenance guys in my
building at 441 (but consider the source): the package was actually IN
the Daly building (I thought they said lobby area) but they didnt know
if the suspect package was connected to any other devices (possibly in
cars on the street or in the metro station). therefore they blocked off
areas where possible other devices were likely to be located and
evacuated some of the buildings as well as closed off the metro
entrance.
one guys said that exploding devices in the metro
station or lobby area of 441 4th St could cause the building to collapse
down into the metro station below - hence evacuating the front half of
the building over the metro station but not other sections. at the same time though, they did not close the metro station - they just directed everyone to exit at the LEO Memorial exit. we felt sooo much safer....
did see the bomb techs putting away the "suit" though. that was kinda cool.
