[Scan-DC] New Home for LA's Engine 51

Hi Joe and all,

My Morse code has never been good enough to actually decipher the beacons that play on Montgomery County Fire's VHF frequencies.  If I knew when it was coming, I might be able to get it, or at least copy down the dots and dashes, or dits and dahs, but...

The "new" licenses for Mtgy on VHF are WZX-460 and WZX-459. WZX-460 is the licensce for 154.16 and 153.95, the old Channel 2 and Channel 1, now the Alpha and Bravo simulcasts... transmitter site is Henderson Corner, which is 27 and Brink Road.

WZX-459 is the license for frequencies 154.28 and 154.295, which are the mutual aide frequencies. Transmitters for WZX-459 are at "Brown's Corner"(which is at New Hampshire Avenue and Route 108, near Station 4), 20325 Observation in Germantown, and 101 Monroe Street, Rockville.

KCP-599, KCP-600, & KCP-601 are all still active - 599 is 154.16, transmitter at Shady Grove; 600 is 153.95 and 154.28 (mutual aide) with transmitters in Damascus and 20325 Observation; and KCP-601 is the "Vernon Place" transmitter, Bright Drive and Radnor Road off of Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda, transmitting on frequencies of 153.95, 154.16, and 14.28.

So the codes we hear are one of those stations.

Regrettably, KGC-334 was canceled on 4/21/2007.  :(  RIP.

(I was bored and I got all this junk from the FCC database)

You may occasionally hear a dispatcher ID the station verbally on the mutual aide channel when clearing with another county.

By the way, the "correct" way to refer to these (and all!) call signs is without the dash between the letters and numbers, that's the way they appear in the FCC database... but I got in the habit of doing it the wrong way many years ago before I found out that it was wrong!

(And finally, when you hear the PG dispatchers saying "KGA 3 6 Anna One", that's counter to FCC regulations!)

2015, KGA-904
