[Scan-DC] Montgomery County stolen car chase

The onstar shut off thingy is a new option - only available on most recent models. There is also a mandate that the cops have to be behind the vehicle when they shut it down. They don't actually turn the vehicle off, they make it so the gas peddle no longer works. So imagine you are driving down the road and no matter how hard you press the gas, the engine only idles. This allows the vehicle to come to a rolling stop rather than just shut off which was more likely to cause crashes.
You can find a cool video and explanation online if you google it.

I actually don't mind the equinox :)
I remember what you ae talking about but I thought the chase originated in montgomery county, near the va line though, and I thought he ran out of gas but onstar was monitoring cabin audio and positioning as he raced around 495, rt 50, etc

I happened to hear it also, while on the way home from work... stolen vehicle was a Chevy Equinox (there will be a brief pause while you say. "EEEEWWWW... who would steal one of those things?") and as Jeff mentions, it was equipped with OnStar... but I thought OnStar also had the capability to disable the vehicle? Anybody know?
(There was a similar incident a couple of years ago where a GM vehicle, seems to me it was a GMC Yukon, or maybe a Cacalade, was stolen somewhere in NoVA and driven into MD, had a little kid in it... didn't that one end up with OnStar shutting down the vehicle? I disremember now...)
