===============

Update: I took an Alexandria DASH bus headed north this a.m. Ordinarily it goes to the Pentagon and turns around, but at least for this morning, Pentagon City is serving as the bus terminal. The driver took a wrong exit and ended up at the Pentagon anyway. I could see two mobile command centers at the Pentagon bus terminal. These are the huge vehicles that start out in life at International Harvester or Oshkosh and then go on to have custom bodies installed on the running gear. I'm not sure, but I think one was substantially white, and the other was navy blue over white. The top of the blue and white one was festooned with satellite dishes, but there was no such array on top of the white one. The place looked like a Ford showroom with all the Crown Vics parked everywhere. Most of them were unmarked.

After we discharged the Pentagon-bound passengers, there were three men (the driver and two passengers) and three women (all passengers) on the bus. We had to get to Nordstrom's to make the transfer to the Metrorail system. The men were clueless, but the women all knew how to get to Nordstrom's. They sat up front and pointed the driver in the right direction.

The bus-to-rail transfer occurs in front of Nordstrom's, where there is an entrance to the Metrorail system outside the mall. Buses are clustered on both sides of the street (Hayes Street?). There's a group of stores opposite Nordstrom's, including a Best Buy, a Marshalls, and a Barnes and Noble (or its equivalent). Arlington motorcycle police are all the place there. There is congestion, but there is no confusion.

My yellow line train had car 5001 in the lead. We took off at track speed toward the Pentagon Metro station. We slowed for the turnout at the north end of the platform and went on our way. I got to work earlier than I usually do.

I had a 1997-vintage Radio Shack PRO-67 with me. It's analog, so I didn't catch any interesting transmissions. I expect that things will get back to normal by noon.
