C&O Canal is not part of National Capital Parks nor GW Parkway (though they
probably also have those frequencies). C&O Canal uses a 3 repeater linked
system that has repeaters at Great Falls, Lambs Knoll, and Cacapon Mountain.

169.6875 repeater would have been the one to watch.

Subject: [Scan-DC] US Park PD?
Last night (Saturday), I think around 2300, Montgomery County dispatched
fire / rescue units to (I think) lock 5 at the C&O canal for a vehicle in
the canal... it turned out to be a pickup truck that had been involved in
robbery or burglary or something like that, and subsequent police chase, in
Ffx county. Vehicle turned out to be unoccupied by the time they got there
(surprise!) and was upright... apparently the water was not that deep.
I was falling asleep and gathered most of this, but didn't listen too much
after I heard all that (basically the initial report). It was down in the
Canal Road / Clara Barton Parkway / Cabin John Parkway area.
I _think_ I turned on the 800-meg scanner and I _think_ I put it on the MCP
Bethesda talkgroup (I didn't have the US Park channels programmed into the
radio but have just remedied that), but was wondering at the time who has
jurisdiction there, MCP or US Park Police, or both... does anyone know?
I looked on RadioReference and only see four frequencies for US Park... but
then another four for National Park Service... the NPS channels are tagged:
National Capital Parks - Central (US Park Police Ch. 5);
National Capital Parks - East;
George Washington Parkway; and
National Capital Parks - Central
Does anyone have a little more detailed insight about how these frequencies
are used, and how the Park Police operate? There doesn't seem to be any
indication of different frequencies for parks / facilities / operations in
MD, DC, or VA...
Tomorrow I'll check Alan's Capitol Hill Monitors site, I think at least some
of this has been addressed there...
Any info would be of interest! Thanks!
Doug
