[Scan-DC] Media Response - RE: metro derailment

Just an FYI about why I like this list and scanning, vs. depending on the
media. It's also why I appreciate the occasional off topic post (OTP).

Shortly after the derailment, WTOP had Adam Tusk, their traffic reporter, on
the scene. He claimed it would be many hours till metrorail was back to
normal, and he and the announcers claimed rush hour would be a disaster.
When he was told that only 20 minutes earlier the metro spokeswoman had said
service was to be restored soon, he and the announcers claimed there was no
way this could be true, and then went back into claiming gloom and doom for
the rest of the day, how buses would be slow to shuttle between stations,
etc.

Soon afterwards metro's spokeswoman called in. She stated that the incident
occurred on a side track, and that traffic would be delayed a total of 40-50
minutes.

The announcers tore into her. One claimed "well, it's been 30 minutes
already!" She was calm, and said that was true and her estimate held.

There was very little professionalism shown by the news crew when they were
caught hyping a story.

This is an example of why I listen to a scanner - no hype, just the facts.

Thanks, and may you listen long and well!

R.
