*Two Alarm Fire Displaces a Family of Two and One Dog*
*Â *
At approximately 4:18 p.m Thursday, February 11, 2010, Units from
Alexandria and Arlington Fire Departments responded to reports of a fire at
707 Bashford Lane
. First arriving units reported smoke coming from an end-of the row
townhome and quickly forced entry through the front door. Once inside
crews determined the fire was in the basement area and was quickly
spreading to the floor joist area between the basement and first floor.
Â
Fire crews performed an aggressive interior attack containing the fire
to the rear of the home. The adjacent town homes, located at 705 and
703 Bashford Lane
, sustained some smoke damage. No one was at home at the time of the
fire. A small dog was in the home and quickly ran out of the front door
when firefighters gained entry. The dog was taken to a local veterinary
clinic to be checked out. He was released with no issues.
Â
The hydrant used for water supply had been cleared of snow prior to fire
department arrival, facilitating water supply operations. Smoke alarms
were present and working in all three units. Two adult occupants and 1
dog of 707 Bashford Land have plans for alternate accommodations. Fire
Marshals determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature.
Total damage is estimated at $ 340,000.
