Alan and others,
Maybe we could get a new list called Scan-DC-Chat for the off topic banter.
I belong to another newsgroup and we normally start off in the main area and
when it becomes off topic we move it over to the "CHAT" list.

Yes, Scan-DC is indeed moderated! I've been mostly handling the list's
administrative tasks and try not to get involved with content.
I've seen the e-mail addresses join and drop from the list. While the
number of Scan-DC members has been roughly the same for years (last count
was 548), more than a third have switched to the digest version.
Messages that impact D.C. area scanner listeners is what we are all here
for. I agree with Jeff Holmes about thinking "outside the box" and at the
same time would hope we avoid un-necessary or thoughtless postings.
One of my pet peeves is single-line (or even single-word) replies to the
list -- especially if they quote a chunk of text.
Clicking REPLY as opposed to REPLY-ALL can make a huge difference.
I understand the complaints about excessive off-topic chatter and hope we
will all try to be good cyber neighbors!
Alan
