MCP 6th District Station Moves to New Location
WHEN: New location open Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.
WHERE: MCP Sixth District (Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village) Station moves from 18749F North Frederick Road to 45 West Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg.
WHAT: Sixth District Station moves to larger temporary facility for interim period until plans and construction of a new 6th District Station are completed.
The Montgomery County Police 6th District Station has been housed at 18749F North Frederick Road in the Tri-Peaks Shopping Center since 2000. This 9,000 square foot location was originally planned as a temporary location until a larger facility could be acquired. Plans are in progress to build a permanent facility for the 6th District in the planned Watkins Mill Town Center. Until that building is completed, this new 19,000 square foot interim location in the Alexandria Technology Center in Gaithersburg will provide more space for station personnel and vehicles.
There will be no disruption in service to 6th District residents as the two-day move from one facility to the other takes place. Calls for service are not dispatched from a police station, and officers will maintain their regular patrol beats. The old facility will close on Monday, January 4. The new facility will be fully open by 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6. The Gaithersburg Police Department Headquarters, located at 14 Fulks Corner Avenue in Gaithersburg, is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week. Anyone who needs assistance from a police station can go there or to the Montgomery County Police 5th District station located at 20000 Aircraft Drive in Germantown.
Sixth District Commander Willie Parker-Loan said, “We are very pleased to have more space for our staff. This is one more step in the progression of obtaining a permanent facility for the 6th District which was created in 2000. I want to assure our community members that this move is made independently from our patrol officer duties, and there will be complete coverage as usual even as the facility move is taking place.”
