I went to my neighborhood Radio Shack yesterday (Saturday) evening,
having called ahead and been told that there were two in the store. I
wanted to know if you could get the extra $10 off the price on an
in-store purchase. You cannot. The price in the stores is, though, the
same as the price online, $89.99. There's no shipping when you buy it in
the store, and you still pay the sales tax. I was about to leave, once I
had bought a pair of the Skullcandy headphones mentioned a few posts
back, when I noticed, sitting on the counter, a stack of coupons. They
give you $15 off any qualifying purchase over $60, and they are good from
Sunday, November 29 through Saturday, December 5.

The store manager, who had not earlier been able to find the radios said
to be in stock, said, "let me look again." He found them. I bought the
headphones and said,"I'll see you tomorrow."

I went in today and bought my radio. The coupon works like a rebate, in
the sense that the purchase rings up as $89.99, and you pay the tax on
that. In Virginia, that's $4.50, at 5%. Then the $15 is deducted. If you
want to nitpick, you can say that the coupon is worth only $14.25 in
Virginia. The tax situation might work out differently in DC or Maryland.
In Delaware and Montana, you don't care. At any rate, the total for me
was $79.49, with the radio in my hands, headed out the door.

The $89.99 price ends tomorrow, and the coupon began today. That gives
you Sunday and Monday to get a good price on the radio in the store.

I went to Radio Shack number 01-2089, at 3425 King Street in Alexandria.
Their number is 703-845-0300. There was one radio still in stock when I
left at about 2:00 p.m. The RSU is 2000439. The store manager, who just
moved here from Colorado, had volunteered to drive to Bailey's Crossroads
to get a radio if he could not find one in the store. He spent a lot of
time with me on this sale. He knows enough about shortwave radios to know
exactly what radio you are looking for if you call the store asking about
a Grundig G3. His computer shows that there are twenty or so in the same
zone as the RS I went to. I didn't catch the manager's name.

Good luck.
