John Antonelli pointed that out. I recalled its location as soon as he reminded me.
I agree on how gentrification has changed things. Ballson used to be Parkington. I went to the Lafayette there to buy ancient GE transistors. It was a definite cut above Radio Shack. Parkington had a five and dime, McCrory's. There used to be a club, Eskimo Nell's, on Wilson Blvd. where the Metro transit center is now. Bob Peck Chevrolet is being turned into ... something.
I miss the Murphy five and dime in Alexandria. I went there all the time for odds and ends.
