The reason for the vague name is that many people might freak out if they thought that there was a 'CIA Police' agency, thinking that such an agency was involved in domestic policing of the general populace, as opposed to protecting CIA facilities.

Another interesting tidbit for those that didn't grow up in this area. For years, there was no sign for the CIA on GW Parkway. Then, when they put in a sign, it said, Department of Roads. Only those that were "in the know" so to speak knew what that was.

ust a curious factoid:

While they call themselves the Security Protective Service, they are actually
ederal police officers.

Last year I met serveral of them unintentionally as I visited the Claude Moore
olonial farm. To make it a little more confusinig or misleading, their cars
nd uniforms said "United States Police" and not "CIA Police" as most other
overnment agencies list their police officers.

Here is an interesting Memo of Understanding about the SPS and the Highway
dministration's testing center located next door

The security guys switched off of these long ago. I believe they are on a UHF
ystem now. It is also the same security guys that are at other locations in
cLean and Tysons.

For a while the 164 MHz freq was used by a location on MacArthir Blvd.

Good afternoon. I have not heard traffic on these two frequencies in years.
ave I just missed it, or has the CIA switched to other frequencies or to a
ederal trunking system? Please confirm.
